1: The wise-cracking narrator. #1 source of entertainment! Even better if it gets the main character to break the forth wall and argue with them on rare occasion.

2: Played almost all of them. Worst/cheapest for me was the stupid spiral staircase in King's Quest 4: Perils of Rosella. I fell down that stupid old staircase at least 20 times before getting any further through the game. (link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZc_Y7… ) The staircase that is at 1:48 is the one if you know the game I'm talking about.

3: Simple deaths, mostly. By simple, I mean ones you see coming from a mile away, and you are given warnings, yet die to them anyways.  Drowning, dying to the elements (cold/heat.) Death by foreign objects (such as a magical book/unknown technology) can add a wonderment and fear of the unknown.  A few deaths out of left field that can help for cheap laughs (ex: The rhino trampled death in Quest for Glory 3 puns.) In the MLP world, I would like deaths that match the mood of the game as it progresses. You could start out with silly ones, and then progress to more serious ones as the game raises the stakes as you progress. Some really creepy everfree forest ones wouldn't hurt either. *mumble* *mumble* *story of the blanks!* *cough-cough!* *mumble*
